About
After more than two decades working as an editor, I began making quilts about 25 years ago, learning from every teacher, workshop, exhibit, and book I could find.
Today I focus on modern quilting, which features bold use of color, minimalism and maximalism, improvisational piecing, and expansive negative space. I’m drawn to solid cotton fabric with strong, saturated color, and I love to play with geometry. I get inspiration from the world around me and from the striking contrasts of many Scandinavian textiles.
I'm grateful to many patient and talented teachers and artists, especially Barbara Howell of Martha’s Vineyard, who got me started, Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr of the Modern Quilt Studio, who always dazzle me with their work, and Emily Williams of Em Williams Fiber Arts, who has helped me improve in every way.
I cut fabric pieces by hand, assemble my quilts with my domestic sewing machine, and do the top stitching, or quilting, on small quilts myself. I almost always send my bigger works to long-arm quilters, whose massive machines can handle three layers in large sizes.
I'm a member of the Boston Modern Quilt Guild and the Cambridge Modern Quilt Guild, which are both chapters of the international Modern Quilt Guild.
In recent years, my quilts have been in several shows, including:
